SBF 9.0 sales to new customers will end on January 1st, 2009. At this time, Microsoft has no plans to introduce a new product to replace SBF. However, existing SBF customers have many options that ensure their investment is secure and that provide them a strong roadmap with Microsoft Dynamics® business applications moving forward, including a significant discount offer for moving to Microsoft Dynamics GP. For more information, please review the Customer Update letter and FAQ." </p> <p class="left_just"> This was the official announcement made public via mail to most Small Business Financial customers on September, Monday the 29th by Microsoft. Although initial reactions are to pound your heads into the wall asking  WHY, WHY, WHY&  , I think that we should simply move past what MS has done and focus on what is the best options for each of our companies. <IMG SRC="picts/paragraph-line.jpg" HEIGHT="3" WIDTH="100%" border="0" vspace="7"><BR> <BR><BR> <!-- COPY AND PASTE CODE ABOVE HERE TO MAKE A NEW PARAGRAPH --> <!-- COPY AND PASTE CODE BELOW TO MAKE A NEW PARAGRAPH --> <span class="subtitle">Moving Forward<BR> </span> In the documents posted by Microsoft, (<a href="http://www.theworldon-line.com/MsSBFDiscontinued2.pdf">Microsoft Small Business Financials Customer Update </a>& <a href="http://theworldon-line.com/MsSBFDiscontinued1.pdf"> Microsoft Small Business Financials FAQ</a>), you will see that Microsoft is offering an <span style="color: red">incredible discount</span> to assist users to move to a much more robust solution. That solution, of course, is Dynamics-GP. SBF and Dynamics-GP share the same database structure and thus allows for an easy upgrade to the Dynamics-GP product. Many of you have asked us what you should do.&nbsp; Below we have outlined our opinion of options.&nbsp; Keep in mind, everything changes and we cannot guarantee the decisions or amounts of discounts or credits of Microsoft.&nbsp; After reading the options below, please send us an <a href="mailto:sales@theworldon-line.com">e-mail:support@theworldon-line.com</a> to indicate how you would like to proceed.&nbsp; We will only know actual numbers when we receive order information from Microsoft.<p class="left_just"> <strong>Status Quo:</strong>&nbsp; You don't do anything.&nbsp; You don't pay for enhancement fees or pay any more money to Microsoft.&nbsp; You continue to stay on SBF for as long as you can.&nbsp; This might be 2, 5, or 10 years depending on your ability to keep SBF working on the ever changing operating systems.&nbsp; Below are our recommendations for this option:</p> <ul> <li>If you are using SBF for payroll purposes, this option is only going to last you for the two years that SBF intends to release the payroll tax tables.&nbsp; TWOL has been looking into the idea of releasing a 3rd party interface that will allow users to maintain their tax tables independently of Microsoft's tax table release.&nbsp; However, this will not shield you against any Federal, State or Local changes in the methodology for calculating the taxes.</li> <li>If you are not using SBF for payroll purposes, and are perfectly happy with SBF as it is now, this option may be best for your company.&nbsp; However, just like the old GPA version of the accounting software, eventually the operating systems generally change enough that the older softwares just can't run on the newer technology without substantial tweaking and tuning.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p class="left_just"> <strong>Stay on SBF and continue paying the enhancements:</strong>&nbsp; You stay on SBF and miss the deadline for the SBF to GP discount.&nbsp; However, you will be upgrading to GP in the future.&nbsp; </p> <ul> <li class="left_just">In this scenario you would still be able to upgrade to GP but you will be charged the full price of Dynamics-GP without any discount on the software.&nbsp; Since you are paying your annual enhancement, you may be able to take advantage of the "Investment Credit".&nbsp; Although you missed a great dollar saving, you at least are able to reduce the price of upgrading to GP by the amount of your initial purchase of SBF.</li> </ul> <p class="left_just"> <strong>Stay on SBF and discontinue paying the enhancements:</strong>&nbsp; You stay on SBF and miss the deadline for the SBF to GP discount as well as stop paying your annual enhancement.&nbsp; However, you will be upgrading to GP in the future.&nbsp; </p> <ul> <li>We do not recommend this option at all.&nbsp; You lose both the SBF to GP discount as well as your "Investment Credit".&nbsp; Thus you end up paying the full price of Dynamics-GP.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p class="left_just"> <strong>Don't pay your annual enhancement and Migrate to GP:</strong>&nbsp; You stay on SBF, you don't pay your annual enhancement and do take advantage of the SBF to GP discount.</p> <ul> <li>You will be able to receive a significant discount off the price of the Dynamics-GP product.&nbsp; However, since you did not continue to pay your annual enhancement fees, you will not realize the reduction in your Dynamics-GP purchase price for the amount of your initial investment in SBF.</li> </ul> <p class="left_just"> <strong>Pay your annual enhancement and Migrate to GP:</strong>&nbsp; You stay on SBF, pay your annual enhancement and take advantage of the SBF to GP discount.&nbsp; You have every intention of continuing to use Microsoft's accounting and Office integration products.</p> <ul> <li class="left_just">We recommend this option for most customers.&nbsp; QuickBooks is probably the easiest to use application for bookkeeping.&nbsp; However, we still consider QB as a risky accounting solution until QB is able to address accountability and sturdy audit trails.&nbsp; Our reasons for putting our customers on SBF or GP are still solid reasons.&nbsp; Please do not knee jerk into any sub-standard solution based on dollars.&nbsp; The cost of changing over to another accounting system will certainly exceed the cost of upgrading to Dynamics-GP.&nbsp; </li> <li>As developers for SBF 3rd party products, we will maintain our current code base for the life span of SBF.&nbsp; We will not be adding new features to any of the released 3rd party code for SBF.&nbsp; However, we will continue, as always, to correct any known material bugs.</li> <li>We will continue to support the SBF product for the life of the SBF product and will try to continue to support SBF as long as technically possible.</li> <li>We are looking into releasing a payroll tax interface that will allow users to update their payroll tax tables manually.&nbsp; However, we will not be releasing any code, (specifically EPA), to overcome tax calculations that may be changed by the governments in the future.&nbsp; </li> <li>**UPDATE** 1/1/2011.&nbsp; Well, the govenment did just that.&nbsp;
